SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Vice President of Organizational Advancement, the Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for managing the department’s staff and the daily operation, direction, implementation, and monitoring of the agency’s marketing and communications goals, both internally and externally.  All work is to be completed with minimum supervision and in accordance with Organization standards.

This incumbent will be expected to promote and adhere to the workplace core capabilities of: accountability, customer focus, continuous quality improvement (CQI), communication, competent people and clear priorities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Promote positive awareness and association with the Illinois Action for Children brand and capabilities.  Develop communications and marketing plans and timelines for implementation.  Select communications channels and identify new opportunities.
  2. Manage all aspects of creative development and print production (budgeting, strategy, review/refinement, writing/translation, estimating, routing/trafficking, proofing, printing and distribution/mailing).
  3. Direct development of materials to support messaging of an estimated 350 jobs a year.  This is including, but not limited to internal and external publications and events.
  4. Ensure all external messaging content and appearances are in keeping with the agency’s brand identity.
  5. Provide management over site and direction to development of IAFC Intranet website.  Responsible for developing workflow for site page creation, updates, and troubleshooting.  Responsible for providing supervision to Intranet Project Manager and coordinating with the IT department and other agency departments to scope internal staff needs and provide content to promote use of intranet.
  6. Monitor job budgets, make annual budget recommendations, issue RFPs (as needed), negotiate and prepare contracts and LOAs.  Submit quarterly reports to the Vice President.
  7. Participate in agency-wide committees and efforts to promote process improvement (such as telecommunications realignment, move steering, and staff development conference).
  8. Supervise external consultants for Marketing and Communications.  Responsible for monitoring the quality of their work.
  9. Provide supervision assistance to staff by answering questions, providing direction when supervisor is not available.
  10. Provide, as required, supervision and management coordination for projects in coordination with the Vice President of External Relations including budget development, departmental planning, and major project supervision.

  12. Other Functions: The Organization may assign other functions to the job at its discretion.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Responsible for managing one department.  Formal responsibility for planning, assigning, directing and coordinator the work of the department.  Performs employee evaluations and makes pay and/or hiring decisions.  Directly supervises work of Web Project Manager, Marketing Project Manager and Communications & Marketing Project Manager

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree and four to ten years’ related experience and/or training. Master’s preferred.
